Second tip: Unless your keyboard is full size or TKL (and even then), try to make sure it's programmable. I personally was never able to find a 60%, 65% and even 75% which had all the navigational keys I typically use without resorting to FN layers. Also, programming in vol- and vol+ controls is always a huge plus for me personally. Another very important reason is that this gives you more flexibility with keysets. Not all keysets you buy will fit your non-standard layout, so being able to program the board gives you more ability to move things around for the keys you do have on hand.
